About the Photographer

Conor is a New Zealand photographer working in Berlin, Germany. She has exhibited extensively in Auckland and has also had shows in Berlin, London and Istanbul and has won multiple awards.

About the Show

In collaboration with Two Rooms Gallery, Auckland, Photival is proud to be bringing Conor's work to Wellington. The series fits into ‘Brink’ by looking at the destructive force of power plants, and also their strange alluring beauty, jarring the viewer between disgust and awe. Please visit Conor’s website.

What Conor says about the series; "Presented here are a series of isolated encounters between the byproduct of industry and nature, between steam and cloud, land and sky.

To stand before a tower, to experience the power of steam rushing towards the sky, and the water crashing at its base - the sensation is immense and overwhelming.

The rational mind says I should feel guilty for finding beauty in such monstrous objects, so associated with global warming they have come to represent a threat. But this landscape exists in the real world, here is analogue proof.

From a position of safety one can enjoy my pictures, as objects of beauty, as pictorial trophies, as evidence of my pursuit through industrial Germany. But pleasure has a sharp realisation when we recall that uncomfortable feeling."
