2018

Bringing together photographers, activists and social commentators, this year’s Photival festival is a series of workshops and public talks exploring photography’s role in the quickly changing news media environment. Analysing the current NZ documentary scene and posing critical questions – is NZ photography covering the social issues it needs to? In the age of fake news what’s the job of photography? Is social documentary really capturing the diversity New Zealand stories?

Photival aims to provide a platform and space for discussion and national development.

Opportunities to join small practical workshops and share your work with established professionals are also available for photographers wanting to gain insight and feedback on their practice.

Please visit the Workshop Results page to see some examples of what the participants came away with.
